CENTRE FOR INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM

The Centre for Indian Knowledge System under the IQAC of the college was establishedin 2025 keeping in view the essential need for the revival and integration of traditional knowledge with modern education. The importance of integrating Indian Knowledge Systems in college curricula extends beyond mere preservation. The centre works solely to foster a sense of identity among students and enhances their understanding of their heritage. Moreover, it enables them to critically engage with their culture while equipping them with the analytical tools necessary to address contemporary global challenges. Such integration can spark innovative solutions drawn from ancient wisdom, bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern-day practices.Another important aspect of the Centre is the diversification of academic discourse. By including these knowledge systems, the academic exercise in the college can challenge the prevailing Eurocentric narratives dominant in many subjects, such as philosophy, science, and social sciences. This shift is emphasized by the centre to encourage students to explore alternative knowledge frameworks and appreciate a more pluralistic understanding of the world. As educators incorporate concepts such as Santosh in Indian philosophy or Vedic mathematics, students learn to value multiple approaches to problem-solving.Looking ahead, the potential for the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems in the college holds promise for the future of education in India and beyond. The fusion of traditional knowledge with contemporary studies can lead to innovative methodologies and cross-disciplinary research. Students are encouraged to partner with local communities to engage in experiential learning experiences that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Such collaborationsfurther enhance capacity building, allowing students to develop solutions based on grassroots knowledge and contemporary challenges.By recognizing the historical and contemporary significance of Indian knowledge, the centre equips students to engage actively with their culture. This engagement fosters innovation, enriches academic discourse, and prepares future generations to tackle complex global issues. This centre not only promotes IKS in the line of NEP20, but also contribute in establishing the (alter)narratives of IKS highlighting the centuries old traditional knowledge system unique to North East India.
