PROFILE

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1964 along with the introduction of Science Stream in the College. Major course was offered in the year 1987 with Dr. Ranjana Choudhury as head of the Department. Former faculty members of the Department are Mrs. Pranita Barua, Md. Abu Muhammed Jeshim Hazarika, Dr. Dipu Nath Sharma and Dr. Milan Nath.

Presently The Department is serving by five permanent faculty members. They are Dr. Mintu Lal Saha (Head of the Department), Dr. Sabita Mahanta, Mr. Sanjay Kr. Das, Dr. Mamani Choudhury and Dr. Jumi Bharali. 

          At present B.A (Honours & Generic), B.Sc. (Honours & Generic) under CBCS system and B.A (Major & Minor), B.Sc. (Major & Minor), SEC, MDC courses under NEP system are offered in the Department. Also Higher Secondary courses are running in the Department.

              Serinars, quiz, group discussion etc. organised by the Department regularly. Parent-Teacher meets are also conducted twice in a year for the exchange of academic information to make a bridge between teachers-parents-students.

VISION

          To inculcate young minds with logical thinking and equipped with different qualities of mathematics such as honesty, punctuality, discipline etc., so that they can behave in life as responsible citizen and can solve problems of day to day life in a systematic manner.

AWARDS

              Department decided to give an award named "Ramanujan Award" to the student securing highest mark in final examination to encourage students. This year Ms. Mayadee Soraisam achieved the award.

 

DR. B. K. CHOUDHURY MEMORIAL CENTRE

The Department has established the "Dr. B. K. Choudhury Memorial Centre for Popularizing Mathematics among Girls", with the help of the visionary founder HOD, Dr. Ranjana Choudhury, dedicated to fostering a love for mathematics among girls. Through various engaging activitities and initiatives, the cetre amis to cultivate a strong interest and passion for mathematics among girls, empowering them to exel in this field.

 

LIBRARY

          Mathematics Department has a library with 124 valuable books. Students can borrow books from the Departmental Library

 

LABORATORY

          Department also has a computer laboratory with 6(six) computers where the practical classes for all the semesters held. There are 2(two) printers available in the department which are used by the faculty members for Departmental works. 

 

WALL MAGAZINE

             Every year departmental wall magazine "MATHEMAGIC" is prepared by the students of the department.
