The Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Department of Botany, Handique Girls" College has been functional since 2014. Over the years, it has grown into a dedicated research and training facility, actively engaged in both academic and research-based studies. The laboratory has contributed to the scientific community through several research publications, reflecting its ongoing commitment to plant sciences and molecular research.

The major works undertaken in the lab include:

  • Cytogenetical assays for analyzing chromosomal behavior and abnormalities
  • DNA isolation and quantification from various plant tissues
  • Gel electrophoresis techniques for DNA and RNA analysis
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for gene amplification and molecular diagnostics

 

The lab continues to support undergraduate and postgraduate students in hands-on learning, research methodology, and experimental biology, fostering a strong foundation in plant cytogenetics and molecular biology.
