International Day of Yoga, 2025 was celebrated by the department of Philosophy, NCC, NSS, IKS of Handique Girls’ College on 21st June, 2025, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Regional Centre, Guwahati. Students and faculty members of the college participated in the yoga program in the college premises. Dr. Sapam Ranbir Singh, Regional Director, IGNCA were present at the event and addressed the gathering. Ms. Reshma Ahmed from The art of living, Guwahati Ashram, was the instructor of the program.
On 27th June, 2025, under the aegis of IQAC, Handique Girls´ College, a successful vermicompost sale program was organized at Handique Girls’ College. The compost, produced by the Vermicompost Production Unit, Handique Girls´ College, was sold under the brand name VermiVita. The event was graced by a motivational address from the Principal, and saw enthusiastic participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, who purchased VermiVita packets in support of sustainable practices. Students actively took part, making the event lively and engaging. Overall, it was a productive and eco-conscious initiative, promoting green responsibility and campus sustainability.
On the occassion of International Womens´ Day, Handique Girls´ College and Rajabala Das Smriti Surakasha Samiti, HGC organized the Rajabala Das Memorial Annual Lecture on 08.03.2025. Eminent scholar Prof. Udayon Misra delivered the special lecture on women empowerment.
Rajabala Das National Award 2025 was conferred upon Junu Borah for her invaluable contributions towards women empowerment. The award ceremony was held at Pragjyotish ITA Complex, Machkhowa, Ghy on 08.03.2025..
On 06/06/2025, the valedictory function of the certificate course, which was conducted from 12/04/2025 to 30/04/2025, was organised by the Department of Assamese, Handique Girls´ College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college. The course titled, "Prayogik Asomiya Bhasha" (Applied Assamese Language) was successfully conducted with the active participation of students from various departments of the college.
The inaugural program of the 120 hrs internship for FYUGP 4th-semester students from the Zoology Department of Handique Girls´ College was successfully held on 20th June,2025 at CPBP and FAL, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Government of Assam, Khanapara, Guwahati. The program is being conducted by the Coordinated Poultry Breeding Programme (CPBP) and Feed Analytical Lab (FAL) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Govt of Assam. This internship aims to provide first-hand experience and entrepreneurship exposure to students in the poultry farming sector. This program will continue till July 18, 2025.The program was attended by Dr. Nayanjyoti Deka (Research Officer), Dr. Papiya Das (Physiological Chemist), and Dr. Chitralekha Das (Assistant Chemist) from the Veterinary Department, and Dr. Dipjyoti Haloi, Dr. Innifa Hasan, and Dr. Anuradha Kalita from the Zoology Department, along with Dr. Bedabrat Saikia, Convenor of Internship Activities Committee of Handique Girls´ College.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June, 2025, an Extension activity on creating public awareness on ´Reduction of Plastic Usage in Day-to-day Life´ has been organised by Green Club, HGC & Department of Political Science, HGC in collaboration with IQAC, Handique Girls´ College. On the occasion, the participating students distributed pamphlets as well as organised awareness campaigns to the general public & shopkeeper in the Dighalipukhuri area.
On the occasion of 52nd World Environment Day, the Department of Botany, Handique Girls’ College organized a special plantation drive within the college campus on 05.06.2025. The initiative included the planting of various species of orchids as well as medicinal and aromatic plants which aimed at enhancing the campus´s biodiversity and promoting environmental awareness among students.
In addition to the plantation drive, the Department also launched an innovative campaign titled “Know Your Campus Plants.” As part of this initiative, QR codes have been generated and attached on selected plant species around the campus. This will help students and visitors to scan and instantly access detailed information about the plants. These activities reflect the Department’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and education. Moreover, these will certainly encourage the students to engage more deeply with the natural world around them.
The Startup Cell of Handique Girls College organised its maiden event on Intra Institutional Business Plan Competition on 30th of April. This event was in collaboration with IIC under the aegis of IQAC, Handique Girls College. A total of five groups presented their business plans in presence of the Principal, Vice Principal and Coordinator of IQAC along with a host of teachers and students. This event was organised to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurial learning among the students.
Philosophical Study Circle, Department of Philosophy in collaboration with IQAC, Handique Girls´ College, organised an online lecture programme on the topic: “Rabindranath Tagore’s Conversations of Humanity: A Third Way between Orientalism and Nativism” on 21st April, 2025. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ankur Barua, a Senior Lecturer in Hindu Studies in the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge .The talk began with the welcome speech given by the Principal of the college, Dr Ranjit Sarma. It was an intellectually stimulating talk which was followed by a highly engaging interactive session. Along with the student and the faculties of the college, many academicians from other institutions also participated in the talk.
The students of the Department of Microbiology, Handique Girls´ College participated in the "One Day Student Exposure Visit" programme on 12/04/2025, organised by the Assam Downtown University. The students got the opportunity to visit the advanced laboratory facilities of the Faculty of Science, Microbiology division and also got to interact with the research scholars along with their faculty members, who gave them a proper demonstration as well as an exposure into their some ongoing externally funded (ASTEC, DBT, ICMR) collaborative research projects. The students were accompanied by two faculty members of the department, Debasish Baruah and Tarazoti Das.
Philosophical study circle, Department of Philosophy in collaboration with IQAC Handique girls’ college organises a felicitation and interactive session with the distinguished alumni and the first female Mahout of India, padma shri Parbati Barua on 02/04/2025. As a part of the felicitation program the BBC documentary “Queen of the Elephants” of Parbati Barua was screened which was attended by a large gathering of students and teachers.
Department of Economics & Economic Society in collaboration with IQAC and Career Guidance & Placement Cell successfully conducted a One-day Workshop on Preparation for CUET (PG) & other competitive exams on 13th March 2025. Resource persons for the event were: Mr. Rahul Gupta, Department of Political Science, Barnagar College, Barpeta and Mr. Biswajit Sarma, Assistant Engineer, P.W.D., Guwahati. The workshop was conducted at the Students´ Day Home and witnessed a participation of 71 students from various departments of the college. They were given a hands-on experience on how to prepare for the CUET exam along with how to tackle MCQs with various tips and tricks along with lessons on how to stay motivated during the entire examination preparation process.
On 19-03-2025, the Dept. Of Economics and Economic Society in collaboration with IQAC organised a workshop on Budget 2025-26. The resource person was Dr. Bandana Chowdhury from the Dept. Of Economics, Gauhati University. Dr. Chowdhury introduced the structure of a budget and did an in-depth analysis of the opportunities and challenges of the budget for Northeast India and suggested the way forward. It was an engaging session and the students highly benefitted from the workshop.
The Department of Physics, HGC has celebrated "Kalpana Chawla Day" on 17-03-2025. On this occasion, Dr. Kamatchi Sankaranarayanan, Associate Professor, DST-IASST, Guwahati has delivered a talk on "Biophysics at the Nexus: bridging disciplines for scientific innovation". Besides presenting a short glimpse on the life of Kalpana Chawla and her space exploration journey, Dr. Sankaranarayanan spoke at length on Microgravity Simulation, the World of Proteins, Cold Plasma and its applications in medical field, research facilities at IASST, and the scope of internship for the students, etc. A number of students from different semesters of the department of Physics along with the faculties attended the talk.
Dr. Kandarpa Phukan alongwith students of HGC participated in the Launching Ceremony of the one week Master training programme organised by Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt. Assam from 13th-21st March 2025.
Department of Philosophy in collaboration with IQAC, HGC have successfully completed the certificate course on Yoga and Meditation from 24th February to 10th March in the college campus.More than hundred students from various departments of college participated in the course .Ms Swapna Goswami and Trishna Kalita,a student from the department of Philosophy were the resource persons of this course. On the valedictory session of the course a special Yoga session was also conducted for teachers and non-teaching staff by the department.

Students from the Department of Psychology participated at an interactive event called Prosestha: Empowering women Inspiring Generations by Young Indians (CII) Guwahati Chapter in association with NEDFI on 4th March,2025. The event was held to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship where 5 distinguished Women from Rural Assam were also felicitated for their exceptional entrepreneurial journeys. The general manager of NEDFI Mr.Vikas Agarwal addressed the students from various colleges of Guwahati emphasising on the significance of nurturing entrepreneurial culture in our society.

Dr. Kishore Dutta´s recent research, published in Thinking Skills and Creativity (Elsevier), proposes a culturally inspired STEAM curriculum using Linocut Printmaking to integrate geometry, physics, engineering, and visual art.
