Department of Microbiology, Handique Girls´ College, established in the year 2012, is the first department to be affiliated under Gauhati University in Assam for under-graduate B.Sc course in Microbiology. The department is highly committed in imparting continuous and consistent quality education to students. The department is dedicated to afford a skeletal structure within which the program can be developed to suit the need of the hour, in keeping with the emergence of new areas of microbiological sciences. At the same time department is concentrating in fostering interdisciplinary research activities and rendering its students to greater access to experimental infrastructure available in the department which in turn would facilitate the students to accomplish better understanding of the subject. The department has also access to the Advanced level Institutional Biotech Hub and is also a part of DBT Star College strengthening program and is so equipped with all necessary microbiology books, advanced and sophisticated instrumentations which would inculcate an interest, knowledge and skill in microbiological sciences that would likely to be used by them in near future for their career and also for nation building.
Department of Microbiology´s laboratory is well equipped with all the advanced and sophisticated bioinstrumentations and othe necessary amenities for students to commence with their practical and research activities.
Departmental library is stocked with a good number of books of national and international authors, reference books, etc.
