The Entomology Laboratory of the Department of Zoology, Handique Girls´ College, was established in 2014 with a focus on nurturing interest and expertise in insect science. Since its inception, the lab has supported 6 to 7 students each academic year who completes master degree with specialization in Entomology. The department is well-equipped to facilitate dissertation and research work, offering instruments such as Soxhlet apparatus, water bath, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, microtome, digital weighing machine, colorimeter, vortex mixer, centrifuge, dissecting and compound microscopes, refrigerator, and micropipettes, SDS and Agarose gel electrophoresis etc. Additionally, it houses a wide range of entomological resources, including preserved insect specimens from various groups (both dry-mounted and wet-preserved), permanent slides, and live insect life cycle materials for hands-on learning. The specialization is guided by two permanent faculty members—Dr. Dipjyoti Haloi and Dr. Santana Saikia—and supported by guest faculty member Miss Lupamudra Borah, ensuring a comprehensive academic and practical training experience for aspiring entomologists.
