On 30th June 2025, the students and faculty members of the Department of Education visited Uzanbazar Ferry Ghat Primary School as part of an Extension Activity, conducted by Department of Education in collaboration with IQAC. The purpose was to conduct an awareness session with the mothers and elder sisters of the school children, focusing on the importance of maintaining health and hygiene. Special emphasis was given on menstrual hygiene. As part of the initiative, sanitary pads were distributed by the students of the department to promote safe and hygiene practices.
The Department of Botany, Handique Girls’ College successfully carried out a capacity building and extension activity on “Plant Identification and Nomenclature” on 28.06.2025 organized by Faculty Higher Secondary School, North Guwahati, Assam at their school premises.
Proper identification of plant is very much essential in terms of their utilization in different aspect as well as to conserve them knowing their IUCN category.
The prime objective of the programme was to equip students with the basic concepts and skills necessary to identify plant species.
The Department of Mathematics, Handique Girls´ College, organized an extension activity with Srimanta Sankardev L. 0P. School, Kalapahar on 27.06.2025.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June, 2025, an Extension activity on creating public awareness on ´Reduction of Plastic Usage in Day-to-day Life´ has been organised by Green Club, HGC & Department of Political Science,HGC in collaboration with IQAC, Handique Girls´ College. On the occasion, the participating students distributed pamphlets as well as organised awareness campaigns to the general public & shopkeeper in the Dighalipukhuri area.
The Department of Computer Science, Handique Girls’ College, organized an extension activity with Kamakhya HS School on 9 May 2025. The activity successfully addressed the need for awareness regarding the Internet of Things and its potential threats.
The Department of English has launched a special programme named Saarathi: The Companion, which explores the role of social networks in the well-being of older adults. This is a part of the Department´s Extension and Outreach Activity from March, 2025. Presently all the 4th Semester students are engaged in this programme where they are providing companionship to an elderly person in their vicinity. They will continue this companionship till the end of 6th Semester. This programme is a small step towards developing long-term care systems for older people thereby promoting healthy ageing and ensuring better quality of life. The programme has received a very enthusiastic response from the students and their parents.
The Department of Physics, Handique Girls’ College conducted an outreach programme at T C Govt. Girls’ H S & M P School on April 30, 2025 for the students of class X. For the holistic development of the girl students of the School a lecture on “Healthy Food Habits for Adolescent Students” was delivered by Dr Jitumoni Neog, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Science, Handique Girls’ College. She explained to the young girls how they could maintain a healthy body with easily accessible homemade foods so as to take on the rigor of their academic pursuits. Dr Neog’s speech was followed by a lively interaction between the resource person and the students. After the lecture a demonstration and a hands-on activity on some physics experiments related to the class X science curriculum were held. The session was conducted by Dr Shakeel Zamal, Head, Department of Physics, Dr Kopinjol Baishya, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and five students of semester IV and semester VI students of the Department. Altogether thirty nine students of class X and two science teachers of the School attended the programme.
An Outreach Activity was organised by the Department of English on 29.04.2025. B.A. 4th semester students visited Kalyani Niwas, Rupnagar. Kalyani Niwas is a children’s home for girls, established in 2007 to support needy and destitute girls aged 6 to 18 years. The project was initially implemented with financial support from the Tata Durabji Trust, Mumbai. In 2019, it was merged with ICPS and registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Students along with teachers had an engaging and interactive session with the children. Along with various songs, dance and storytelling performances, our students also discussed about issues such as Gender Equality, Health and Hygiene, Good Touch- Bad Touch, Self Defence, AI and it´s current scenario etc.
The Department of Political Science organised a field trip for the 6th sem students accompanied by all the faculties of the department to Mayong village and Pobitora National Park on 26th April, 2025. The trip is to introduce the aspect of traditional knowledge system of Mayong as well as men-animal relation in the Pobitora region.
The 4th Semester Education Major students visited Latasil LP School on 24/4/2025, to conduct a session on life skills. The visit included engaging interactive activities with the young students, aimed at fostering learning and curiosity. Prizes were distributed, and light refreshments were provided, making the day both educational and enjoyable for the children. About 60 students of class 1 to 5 were present.
The Department of Mathematics, Handique Girls´ College, organized an extension activity with Latasil L. P. School on 23.04.2025 (Wednesday)
The students of the Department of Microbiology, Handique Girls´ College participated in the "One Day Student Exposure Visit" programme on 12/04/2025, organised by the Assam Downtown University. The students got the opportunity to visit the advanced laboratory facilities of the Faculty of Science, Microbiology division and also got to interact with the research scholars along with their faculty members, who gave them a proper demonstration as well as an exposure into their some ongoing externally funded (ASTEC, DBT, ICMR) collaborative research projects. The students were accompanied by two faculty members of the department, Debasish Baruah and Tarazoti Das.
A “Science Awareness Programme” was conducted by the Department of Physics in Panbazar H.S. School, Guwahati-781001 on 10.04.2025 amongst class XI level students wherein two faculties accompanied by three Sem IV students of the department took part. Different experiments on magnet, light were demonstrated before a total of 22 students of the school. The students got to know about the difference between electric lines of force and magnetic lines of force, Earth as a magnet, how iron dust behaves in a magnetic field around a bar magnet, phenomenon of dispersion of light, how does angle of deviation of light vary with incident angle while passing through a prism, etc.
A number of queries of the students were clarified during the interactive session. Along with this programme, an extension activity on the topic “Health Effects of Electronic Gadgets” was held amongst the students. During the programme, Dr. A.D. Purkayastha delivered a lecture through power point presentation on the applications of electronic gadgets, its disadvantages, and the precautions that one should take when using these devices.>
As a part of the awareness programme, a quiz competition was also conducted by Dr. J. Saikia amongst the students. Prizes were distributed to the winners: Deepjyoti Deka (1st Position), Sumi Deuri (2nd Position), Parishmita Das (3rd Position).
A questionnaire was distributed among the students to assess the proper use of electronic gadgets and its impact on their health and minds.
Department of Political Science, Handique Girls´ College organised an outreach program at Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya, Basistha on 7th April 2025. The program was attended by many students accompanied by faculty members. The students engaged in some awareness activities on self care, environment and hygiene with the school children. Books were donated to the school Library and few stationery items were distributed too.
On 3rd April 2025, the Department of Zoology, Handique Girls’ College, organized an extension activity in the form of a cleanliness drive in the surrounding area of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Morigaon. A group of enthusiastic 4th and 6th semester students, accompanied by faculty members—Dr. Abhinit Dey, Dr. Anuradha Kalita, Dr. Santana Saikia, Miss Lupamudra Borah, and Miss Papori Deka—actively took part in the initiative. As part of the awareness campaign, the team also distributed informative leaflets highlighting the dos and don´ts to be followed by tourists while visiting the sanctuary. These leaflets, prepared in both Assamese and English, aimed to promote responsible tourism and conservation awareness among visitors
Department of Political Science organised an Extension Activity at Emmanuel Rehabilitation Foundation, Guwahati on 02/04/2025 celebrating the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day. The students and teachers participated in a joint painting activity with the differently abled children of the institute;few awareness activities were also done with people in general on understanding autism.
On the Occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, on 18th of March, 2025, the 2nd semester students of the Department of Home Science organised a demonstration on food adulteration and performed a drama among the students and parents of Jaga Harijan School, Uzan Bazaar, Guwahati.

Students of 4th and 6th semester (major) of Hindi department along with teachers visited the headquarters of Hindi daily newspaper Dainik Purvodaya, located in Guwahati ,Christian Basti on 6.03.25. The students gained practical knowledge for their Major paper on Journalism.
The Department of Botany, Handique Girls´ College in collaboration with Guiya High School, Kamalpur, Kamrup under the aegis of DST-CURIE Project, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India celebrated the National Science Day 2025 on 28th February, 2025 at Guiya High School as an outreach programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Pranab Bujarbarua, HOD, Botany followed by welcome address by Mr. Nabin Chandra Das, Head Teacher, Guiya High School, Kamrup. The programme was organized as per the theme for National Science Day 2025 is “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat”.
