SEMINAR PRESENTATION:

The department of History has organized a One-day seminar on 11th May 2026 aimed at providing students with insights into various topics relevant to their academic and professional growth. The seminar comprised multiple sessions, each focusing on a distinct topic. The students were divided into 13groups and in each group there were around 5 to6 students assigned the following topics related to the History of their syllabus.  The students of 4th semester actively participated in the seminar with interaction session (questions and answers). The interactive nature of the sessions facilitated knowledge sharing and encouraged students to voice their opinions and ask questions.


CAREER COUNSELING PRORAMME ON 28.04.2026

A one-day seminar-cum-orientation programme on career counselling was organized by the Department of History in collaboration with eKuhipaat on 28 April 2026. The programme focused on creating awareness about career opportunities in the civil services and guiding students towards effective preparation strategies for competitive examinations such as APSC.

The session aimed to motivate the students to consider civil services as a promising career option. Representatives from eKuhipaat conducted the session and emphasized the importance of strategic preparation, consistency, proper guidance and confidence-building for aspirants. They also shared valuable insights into examination patterns, preparation techniques, and time management strategies.

An interactive segment was included in the programme, during which an online quiz comprising questions on general knowledge was conducted. Based on their performance in the quiz, five students were selected to receive free coaching for APSC, which served as a significant encouragement for the participants.


INTERDISCIPLANARY IKS BASED TALK

Topic: IKS BASED TALK “Sanskrit Kavya as Historical Source: Perspectives on Reconstructing Indian History.”

A talk on the theme “Indian Knowledge System” was organized by the Department of History in collaboration with IQAC on 28th April 2026. The topic of the lecture was “Sanskrit Kavya as Historical Source: Perspectives on Reconstructing Indian History.” The session was delivered by Ms. Rashmi Rekha Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, Handique Girls’ College, who served as the resource person for the programme.

In her lecture, Ms. Devi highlighted the significance of Sanskrit kavya (classical poetry) as an important source for understanding and reconstructing Indian history. She explained how literary works, though often poetic and imaginative, contain valuable historical insights into the socio-cultural, political, and economic conditions of their time. The speaker emphasized the need for critical analysis while using such sources, as they often blend fact with artistic expression.


KINESTHIC LEARNING ACTIVITY:

Date: 18/03/2026

The Department of History, Handique Girls’ College, organised a kinesthetic learning activity for the 6th semester students on 18th March 2026 with the objective of making the teaching–learning process more interactive, creative, and student-centred. The activity aimed to help students understand historical personalities and their contributions through active participation rather than only through classroom lectures.

As part of the programme, students portrayed various important historical figures through role play. They acted as personalities from different periods of Indian and world history such as Rani Lakshmi Bai, Gautam Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, Srimanta Sankardev, Razia Sultana, Akbar and Adolf Hitler. Each participant introduced the character she represented and briefly explained the major contributions and historical significance of that personality.

The activity proved to be highly effective as it encouraged learning through movement, expression, and performance, which is the essence of kinesthetic learning. It helped students understand historical figures in a more meaningful way and also enhanced their confidence, communication skills, and creativity.


CERTIFICATE COURSE ON BRAHMI SCRIPT:

Starting Date : 7/03/2026

The department of History and the department of Sanskrit, in collaboration with the IKS Centre of Handique Girls’ College organized an online 30-hour Certificate Course on Brahmi Script from 7th March to 16th March, 2026. The course was designed to introduce students to the structure and significance of the Brahmi script which is considered as one of the earliest writing systems of the the Indian subcontinent and an important source for reconstructing ancient Indian history.

The course was conducted by script expert Anand Sarma, who explained to the students the basic characters of the script through a series of lectures and practical sessions. He also explained the phonetic structure of the script and the methods used by historians and epigraphists to read ancient inscriptions.

To strengthen the learning process, the script expert also conducted practice sessions through regular homework and assignments, enabling the students to practice writing and identifying Brahmi characters and thereby improving their understanding of the script. A total of 67 students participated in the certificate course.


ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME:

Speaker : Dr. Amalesh Adhikari, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University

An Awareness Programme on Wildlife and Environmental Laws, Forest Laws and the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 was organized on 28th February 2026.

The programme was jointly organized by the District Legal Services Authority, Kamrup (M), Blue Sky (NGO) and the Department of History, Handique Girls’ College.

The resource person for the programme was Dr. Amalesh Adhikari, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University. In his insightful lecture, he elaborated on the significance of environmental conservation, forest laws, and the provisions of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. He emphasized the legal responsibilities of citizens in protecting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.

  


A CAREER COUNSELING PROGRAMME

Resource Person: Swapneel Sarma. Faculty member of Abhigyan Academy.

A Career Counseling and Professional Guidance Programme was organized jointly by the NCC Unit and the Department of History, Handique Girls’ College, in collaboration with Abhigyan Academy. The programme was conducted with the objective of guiding students towards suitable career paths and equipping them with essential knowledge regarding competitive examinations and professional opportunities after graduation.The resource person for the programme was Swapneel Sarma, who delivered an informative and motivating session.

  


EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Panbazar Adarsha Prathamic Vidalay

Date : 24/02/2026 to 06/03/2026

The Department organized an outreach programme as part of its community service initiative at Panbazar Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalaya, a pre-primary school in Panbazar. The programme commenced on 24th February and concluded on 6th March, 2026 with the objective of extending academic support to young learners and fostering a sense of social responsibility among students.

During this period, the students of the department actively engaged in teaching activities at the school. They conducted ten days of classes ensuring continuity in the learning process at a time when the regular school teachers were occupied with election duties.

The student volunteers not only assisted in basic teaching but also interacted warmly with the children creating a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Topic: Holistic Well-Being through Meditation: An Indian Knowledge System Perspective”

The Department of History, in collaboration with the NCC Unit and IQAC, Handique Girls’ College, organized a talk on “Holistic Well-Being through Meditation: An Indian Knowledge System Perspective” on 20th February 2026. The resource person for the programme was Dr. Monoj Kumar Singha (Retd.), Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Rangia College. He explained the relevance of Indian Knowledge System traditions in maintaining mental balance, self-discipline, and inner harmony in contemporary times. The session proved to be highly enriching and beneficial for the students, encouraging them to incorporate meditation into their daily lives for overall personal and academic growth for overall personal and academic growth.

  


Inauguration of Wall Magazine  ´Regional Canvases´ 

09/02/2026

The Department successfully prepared and displayed the wall magazine titled “Regional Canvases (2025–2026)” to highlight the rich cultural and artistic heritage of India. The wall magazine was inaugurated on 09/02/2026 in the presence of teachers and students.

The main theme of the wall magazine was India’s diverse regional art traditions and cultural expressions. Through colourful presentations and informative articles, the magazine explored the history, styles, and significance of various regional art forms of India. The exhibition aimed to create awareness among students about the artistic and cultural richness of different states of the country.

The magazine included articles on famous traditional art forms such as Phad, Kalighat, Madhubani, Majuli Manuscript Painting, and Lipan Art. It also displayed drawings and illustrations of regional paintings along with intricate border designs, Mughal-style jharokha patterns, and rope and mirror work designs. One of the major attractions of the magazine was the artistic “Folk Art Map of India,” which beautifully represented different folk art traditions across the country. A QR code was also added to provide access to a digital replica of the wall magazine.

 

The wall magazine was prepared through the collective efforts of students including Payal Choudhary, Chaitali Ghosh, Puja Choudhary, Jinki Baruah, Krisi Mushary, Githarthi Borah, Rithika Kumari, Bhaswati Deka, Pragya Baruah, Sneha Bora, Paungkaiyle Jeme, Upasana Nath, Nafsiya Ahmed, and Pallavi. Their creativity, teamwork, and dedication made the programme successful and attractive.


 

Excursion to Mumbai Goa

From 1/1/2026 to 12/1/2026, the students of the department visited the important places of Mumbai and Goa accompanied by faculties of the department Binoy Kr. Nath and Kamakhee Hazarika. They visited the historical places and recieved firsthand infromation of these historical places. 

 


 

WORLD AIDS DAY

Date: 01/12/2025

World AIDS Day was observed on 1st December, 2025 in a programme jointly organized by the Red Ribbon Club, NCC Unit, Department of History, and HGSCU. The event featured Ms. Jutimala Choudhary as the speaker who delivered an insightful talk on the topic “AIDS and Syphilis.”

As part of the awareness initiative, students prepared and distributed the AIDS symbol using red ribbons, spreading the message of awareness, prevention, and compassion within the campus community. The programme served as an important step toward promoting health awareness and responsible behavior among students

  


SENEHI BEGAM MEMORIAL LECTURE:

Topic: Traditional Knowledge Systems: Wisdom of the Past, Current Relevance.

The Department of History and in collaboration with IQAC, Handique Girls´ College organized a Talk on 27th November, 2025 to commemorate the 6th death anniversary of Senehi Begum, former Principal-in-charge of Handique Girls´ College and former Head of Department of History. The programme began with a tribute to Senehi Begum by Senehi Begum Smriti Raksha Samiti and the faculty members of the Department of History.

Following the tribute a second edition of departmental e-magazine titled “Historica” was inaugurated by the Principal and the Resource Person. The magazine marks an important academic initiative by the Department of History, showcasing student writings and departmental activities. To grace the occasion Prof. Priyam Goswami (Retd.), former Head of the Department of History, Gauhati University was invited as the speaker who delivered a lecture on the topic entitled “Traditional Knowledge Systems: Wisdom of the Past, Current Relevance.

    


PARENT TEACHERS MEET:

Date: 08/11/2025

The Department of History organized a Parent–Teacher Meet on 8th November 2025 with the objective of strengthening communication between teachers and parents and to collectively address the academic and personal development of students. The meeting began with a brief welcome address by the Head of the department, highlighting the importance of parental involvement in enhancing students’ performance. Teachers interacted with parents individually and discussed various academic issues, including students’ examination marks and attendance etc

GROUP DISCUSSION:

A Group Discussion activity was organized by the Department of History on 3rd November 2025 for the students of 5th semester. The activity proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students. Engaging with different topics like Political condition in the Mughal period, the battle of Plassey and battle of Buxer, Robert clive and Dual administration, Opium Wars and Manchurian Crisis, Lord Wellesly and the policy of Subsidiary alliance, Lord Dalhousie and Doctrine of lapse, Lord Curzon and Partition of Bengal: Swadeshi movement, Gandhian Politics, Khilafat movement, Civil Disobedience Movement. The students had the opportunity to understand the historical and socio-political themes. By actively participating in discussions within their respective groups, students not only enhanced their understanding of the assigned topics but also cultivated their communication and critical thinking skills. Through this collaborative learning approach, students were able to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and broaden their perspectives. All faculty members were actively participated

  


LECTURES SERIES BY ALUMNI:

A lecture series by the Alumni of the history department were held from 30.10.2025 to 01.11.2025. They delivered their lecture on the following topics to the 1st ,3rd, 5th semester students respectively. On 30.10.25 around 125 girls from 1st semester were present. 31.10.25. sixty-two girls from 3rd semester were present and 01.11.25 around 40 girls from 5th semester were present. Girls were benefited by these lecture series.

PEER LEARNING:

The Department of History organized a peer learning session, which provided a unique platform for the students to enhance their understanding of historical topics on 19 September 2025. A series of Peer learning classes were Held by 5th semester students. During this session the students were given the opportunity to deliver lecture on verity Historical topics. Students Bhaswati Deka, Gitarthi Bora, Pragya Baruah, Bhabana Hazarika, Puja Choudhury took the Classes respectively on the following topics- Bhakti Movements, Russo-Japanese War, Opium War, Thirty years’ War, Iqta System. Every lecture was followed by question from their respective peers, which marked the insightful participation of lecture programme.

Dr Malabika Das delivered a lecture on the life of Dr Sarvavalli Radhakrishnan and advise them to follow the path of these great philosophers. 


 

OBSERVANCE OF  INDEPENDENCE DAY

Report: On 14th of August on the occasion of 79th Independence Day an interdisciplinary talk has been arranged by the department of History, Handique Girls College on the Topic of GANDHIAN PHILOSOPHY. Main objective of this talk to inculcate the feeling of nationalism and unity among the students. Dr Madhuchanda Chaliha Bhuyan, Associate professor of Philosophy Department delivered her lecture, where around 71 students of History department participated with a good number of interactions. Students were highly Benefited out of the talk.


 

Extension Activities

05/06/2025

An extension programe was organized by our History department on 5th June 2025 to Bynihat Meghalaya with 23 students.  Bynihat has been counted as one of the polluted areas of North Eastern Region. Whereas the Shillong is the Hub of tourist Place (Hill station) of North eastern Region. As Bynihat is the gateway to Shillong, What the difficulties has been faced by the local people and what steps have been taken by the local people to reduce the pollution. One important thing reveals that the people of Bynihat are lease concern about garbage disposal. According to them all the garbage will be dispose at the time of rain, automatically rain water washed up to low line areas.


Inauguration of  Wall Magazine “Indus Valley Civilization”

The Department of History successfully organized and displayed the wall magazine titled “Indus Valley Civilization (2024–2025)” with the objective of creating awareness among students about one of the world’s earliest urban civilizations. The wall magazine was inaugurated on 11/02/2025 by the Head of the Department (HOD).

The main theme of the wall magazine focused on the rich cultural heritage, advanced urban planning, craftsmanship, and daily life of the Indus Valley Civilization. Through informative articles, creative models, and artistic representations, the exhibition highlighted the remarkable achievements of this ancient civilization and its contribution to human history.

The magazine included several attractive and educational displays such as a cross-section model of the Great Bath, replications of jewellery, and a model of the famous dancing girl figure. It also featured articles on important aspects of the civilization including artifacts, pottery, and seals. These exhibits helped students understand the artistic skills, trade systems, cultural practices, and technological advancements of the Indus Valley people.

The wall magazine was creatively designed and prepared with dedication and teamwork by the students. The activity was completed through the combined efforts of Begracy Saikia, Hiyashree Pathak, Garima Brahma, Meghashree Das, and Prajukta Buragohain, whose hard work contributed greatly to the success of the programme.


FIELD TRIP TO SURYAPAHAR

DATE – 20/11/2024

The Department of History organized a field trip to Suryapahar as a part of the syllabus of SEC Paper of FYUGP 1st semester on 20/11/2024. It is a significant archaeological and historical site in Goalpara district, Assam. The field trip aimed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience and deepen their understanding of Assam’s ancient heritage. The trip was attended by 84 students and 3 faculty members of the History Department

Topic - Emergence of Rajputs in North India

A lecture on "Emergence of Rajputs in North India," was organized by the Department of History at Handique Girls´ College. The speaker shared insights on the rise and establishment of the Rajput identity and its impact on the socio-political fabric of medieval India. This series provided students and faculty an opportunity to delve deeper into the historical narratives and regional variations that defined Rajput society. The session highlighted the origins of Rajput clans, their warrior ethos, and their relationship with local dynasties and the ruling elite. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, allowing students to explore the diverse cultural and political influence of Rajputs across North India, including the legacy they left in art, architecture, and Indian governance systems.

The Department of History at Handique Girls´ College recently organized a lecture by alumni on the topic "Arabs, Ghaznavids, and Ghorids," which explored the early medieval Islamic invasions and their influence on the Indian subcontinent. This session aimed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the historical and cultural transformations that took place in India due to these incursions.

Topic : A REVISIT TO THE HISTORY OF INDIAN DYNASTIES: CHALUKYAS OF BADAMI, RASTRAKUTAS AND CHOLAS

The Department of History at Handique Girls´ College recently hosted an insightful lecture by alumni on the theme "A Revisit to the History of Indian Dynasties: Chalukyas of Badami, Rashtrakutas, and Cholas." The lecture aimed to explore the significance of these three South Indian dynasties in shaping the political, cultural, and architectural legacy of early medieval India. The session began with an examination of the Chalukyas of Badami, who ruled between the 6th and 8th centuries CE.


CELEBRATION OF WORLD TOURISM DAY :

On September 27, 2024, the Department of History at Handique Girls’ College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, celebrated World Tourism Day. The event was hosted by Dr. Runjun Barman, the Head of the Department. Principal Dr. Ranjit Sarma delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of Assam´s tourism industry. Dr. Pori Hiloidari, Co-ordinator of IQAC, also addressed the audience of students and faculty. Dr. Sangeeta Gogoi, Director in charge of the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies, presented a lecture titled “Maidams of Charaideo: An Example of Tai-Ahom Ethno-Cultural Heritage.” Following the lecture, there was an interactive session between the resource person and the college´s teachers and students. Dr. Binoy Kr. Nath delivered the vote of thanks.

  


MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU)

MoU between Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies ans Handique Girls´ College under the Initiative of Department of History

On 27th September, 2024 an important Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Handique Girls’ College and the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies, initiated by the Department of History. This MOU aims to facilitate workshops and seminars for the benefit of students, teachers, and staff from both the institutions, enhancing academic and internship opportunities. It also focuses on the preservation and promotion of Assam´s historical heritage.

  


LECTURE ON REVOLT OF 1857 (MOU)

As a part of teacher exchange programme under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arya Vidyapeeth College, a special lecture was conducted by Department of History. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Dimpy Das. The lecture took place on 10-9-2024 and was attended by students and faculty members of the department. Dr. Dimpy Das provided an insightful lecture on the topic entitled Revolt of 1857. The topic was chosen to align with the current curriculum and to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter. The lecture covered various aspects of the revolt such as causes, nature, course, consequences of the revolt of 1857.

LECTURE ON THE TOPIC RESTORATION AND REVOLUTION IN EUROPE (1815-1848)

As a part of teacher exchange programme under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arya Vidyapeeth College, a special lecture was conducted by Department of History. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Kakoty,(HOD) Department of History of Arya Vidyapeeth College. The lecture took place on 28-8-2024 and was attended by students and faculty members of the department. Dr. Sangeeta Kakotydelivered an insightful lecture on the topic entitled Restoration and Revolution in Europe (1815-1848). The topic was chosen to align with the current curriculum and to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter.

On the occasion of 78th Independence day of India, the Department of History and the NCC unit, under the aegis of IQAC, Handique Girls´ College organised an intra-college quiz competition on 14th August, 2024. The competition was conducted by Dr. Sandipan Pathok, Assistant Professor of History, Pandu College. A total of 34 teams participated in the quiz competition. CELEBRATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

The Department of History celebrated Environment Day with a sustainable initiative. Students crafted paper bags and distributed them to local vendors, promoting eco-friendly alternatives to plastic. This not only raised awareness but also encouraged practical action towards a greener future. Twenty Girls.

TOPIC: Talk on enhancing soft skill

RESOURCE PERSON: Dr, Tasrina Iqbal. Assistant professor of Handique Girls College, English Department, Handique girls College.

A talk on enhancing soft skill was organised by the department of History on 22 Nd may2024 with the objective of developing students interpersonal and professional competencies. The programme aimed to create awareness among the students regarding the importance of soft skills in academic, professional and personal life. Dr Iqbal delivered an insightful and interactive lecture highlighted the communication skill, leadership qualities, team work, time management and positive attitude.


TALK ON BEYOND EQUALITY: PROMOTING GENDER EQUITY FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH

A talk on Beyond Equality: Promoting Gender Equity for Inclusive Growth was organized by department of History on 20th May, 2024. The Speaker invited for the talk was Sujata Hati Baruah, Assistant Professor, Puthimari College. A total of 53 students participated in this talk. The talk aimed to explore the importance of gender equity in fostering inclusive growth and to stimulate discussions on strategies for promoting gender equality in various sectors of society. It provided valuable insights into the complexities of gender equity and its implications for inclusive development. It served as a catalyst for dialogue and action, inspiring attendees to advocate for gender equality in their respective spheres of influence.

INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH DR. SAMUJJAL BHATTACHARYYA

Date - 13/5/2024

The Department of History in association with IQAC organised an interactive session on 13/05/2024. Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya, Chief Advisor of All Assam Student Union was invited as the chief guest of the program. Dr. Bhattacharya deliberated on the history of the Assam Movement, a topic required for the 6th semester History Honours paper HIS-HE-6026 and 4th semester paper HIS-SE-4016. The students actively participated in the interaction following his speech.

  


CLASS SEMINAR : REPORT ON DEPARTMENT SEMINAR

The department of History organized a two-day seminar aimed at providing students with insights into various topics relevant to their academic and professional growth. The seminar comprised multiple sessions, each focusing on a distinct topic. The students were divided into 8 groups and were assigned topics related to the History of Medieval India. The students actively participated in the seminar through questions and answers. The interactive nature of the sessions facilitated knowledge sharing and encouraged students to voice their opinions and ask question.


GROUP DISCUSSION:

Date - 30-04-2024

A Group Discussion Activity was organized by the Department of History on30th April2024. The activity proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students. Engaging with Topics ranging from the administration of Akbar to the causes for imperialism, students had the opportunity to understand the Historical and socio-political themes. Through this collaborative learning approach, students were able to exchange their ideas, challenges and broaden their perspective.


PEER LEARNING ACTIVITY:

Date - 24/4/2024

Topic – Revolt of 1857

A Peer Learning activity on the topic entitled ‘Revolt of 1857’ was organized by the department of History on 24th April, 2024. Through the peer-learning session the department aimed to foster collaborative learning among students. At first the teachers of the department provided an overview of the peer-learning approach, emphasizing its benefits for all the students. The students of the department portrayed the role of different leaders of the revolt of 1857 like Rani Lakshmibai, Maniram Dewan and Kunwar Singh etc. Following the discussions, participants provided constructive feedback to each other, reflecting on the learning process and identifying the areas of improvement.

Topic – State and Religion Under Aurangzeb

An Alumni talk was organized by the department of History on 22nd April, 2024. The talk was delivered by Parinita Bora on the Topic State and Religion under Aurangzeb. The lecture delved into the complex relationship between state craft and religion during the time of Aurangzeb. The speaker discussed Aurangzeb’s efforts to promote Islam and enforce Islamic law across his empire, including the imposition of Jizya tax on non-Muslims and the destruction of Hindu temples. Overall, the lecture provided a nuanced perspective on Aurangzeb’s approach to religion and governance, emphasizing the complexities of state craft in a multi-cultural society like Mughal India.


VISIT TO MUSEUM:

Date - 28/03/2024

Dr Dimpy Das and Ms Parinita Bora accompanied the students of History to museum as the field visit to survey the culture of north east and archaeological excavation of north eastern site.

Topic: Constituent Assembly to electoral Politics

Students were very much benefited by the topic on Evolution of electoral politics in Assam since 1947, transitioning from the constituent assembly era to contemporary times. It helps them to explore the historical and political dynamics shaping Assam’s electoral landscape.


ART INTEGRATED LEARNING ACTIVITY:

Poster Making Competition for Cover Page of Proposed E-Journal

Date - 12.03.2024

An Art integrated learning activity in the form of Poster Making competition was organized by the department of History on 12th March, 2024. The activity aimed to select a captivating and visually appealing design to feature on the cover page of the journal. Participants were encouraged to showcase their creativity and artistic skills while incorporating themes relevant to the scope of the journal. After careful deliberation, the judging panel selected Nikita Talukdar, Pinaj Hussain and Jeevantika Nath as winners.


Inauguration of Wall Magazine ´Unsung Queens of Indian History´

The Department of History successfully prepared and displayed the wall magazine titled “Unsung Queens of Indian History (2023–2024)” with the objective of highlighting the contributions of remarkable women rulers and personalities who played significant roles in Indian history. The wall magazine was inaugurated on 07/02/2024 by the Head of the Department (HOD). The main theme of the wall magazine focused on the lesser-known queens and women leaders of India whose courage, leadership, sacrifice, and cultural influence left a lasting impact on society and history. Through informative articles and pictorial presentations, the magazine aimed to create awareness among students about the important yet often overlooked role of women in Indian history. The magazine included an introduction to history and several articles on notable personalities such as Jhalkari Bai, Sati Sadhini, Rani Chinnabhairadevi, Rani Chinnamma, and Rani Mangammal. It also featured articles and pictorial representations on famous women figures including Rani Abbakka Chowta, Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, Didaa, Prabhavati Gupta, Velu Nachiyar, and the Brahman Lady. These contents reflected the bravery, administrative abilities, and cultural contributions of these women rulers and leaders. The wall magazine was creatively designed and decorated by the students with attractive layouts, photographs, and informative write-ups. The programme was prepared through the combined efforts of Begracy Saikia, Hiyashree Pathak, Garima Brahma, Meghashree Das, and Prajukta Buragohain, whose dedication and teamwork contributed to the successful completion of the activity.

STUDENT´ PARTICIPATION

On 18th January 2024 students of History Department from 4th semester has participated in the Talk Delivered by DR MAHESWATA BARUA of UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE U.S.A. on the topic of “the communication and service Across Boundaries in a post covid period in Guwahati Press Club. Students were benefited out of this lecture.

  


Field trip to Mandan Kamdev:

Date 08/02/2024

On 08/02/2024 the department organised a field trip to Madan Kamdev near Baihata Charali. It is a prominent arhcaeoligcal site of Assam. It trip was organised for the studnets of certificate course on Archaeology run by the department. Aroud 30 nos of students guided by Dr. Binoy Kr. Nath and other teachers of the course visited the site. 

 


Excursion to Jaipur and Jaisalmer: 

Date - 7th-17th January 2024

The department organized an excursion from 7th-17th January 2024 to Delhi, Jaipur and Jaisalmer. The team was led by two teachers i.e Dr. Binoy Kr. Nath and Soma Dhar. A total of 76 students took part in the excursion. They visited different historical places like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Hawa Mahal, etc.

 

 


 

Alumni Meet: 

Date - 30/11/2023

An alumni meet was held on 30/11/2023 in the day home of the college where around 60 alumni participated and decided to held annual talk in the memory of Senehi Begum, former head of the department and Principal (i/c).


FIELD TRIPS to Batadraba Than and Maha Mrityunjoy Temple

Date - 08/11/2023

A Field visit was organized by department of History on 8th November, 2023 for the students of the department. Two sites were selected for the field visit i.e. Batadraba Than and Maha Mrityunjoy Temple. The team was led by three teachers of the department i.e Dr. Runjun Barman, Dr. Binoy Kr Nath and Krishna Hazarika. along with 60 students. During this visit students were able to explore the ancient artifacts and Assam’s rich heritage.

 


Excursion to Bangalore and Puducherry:

3/10/2023 to 12/10/2023

The department organised an excursion for the students to Bangalore and Puducherry from 3/10/2023 to 12/10/2023. The group visited many historical places like Tipu Sultan´ palace, Vrindaban Ganrden, Matri Mandir and others. 

 


 Inauguration of Wll magazine: 

26/09/2023

The wall magazine, themed "Ahom Dynasty," was inaugurated by the Head of Department (HOD) on September 26, 2023. It aims to provide a fascinating glimpse into one of the most influential dynasties in the history of Assam. Through engaging visuals and narratives, it details the rise, reign, and legacy of Ahom rulers, including their political, cultural, and architectural achievements. It serves as both an educational resource for students and a celebration of the rich heritage and enduring legacy of the Ahom dynasty in shaping Assamese identity.


 

INAUGURATION OF CERTIFICATE COURSE IN ARCHAELOGY:

Date - 20/9/2023

A Certificate Course on Archaeology was inaugurated by the Department of History on 20th September, 2023 with 26 students. The inauguration of the Course was attended by Dr. Manjil Hazarika (HOD, Department of Archaeology, Cotton University and Dr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal and Rajiv Kumar Das, vice Principal. Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held on 24th April, 2024. The ceremony celebrated the successful completion of the Course, acknowledging the dedication and achievements of participants in acquiring foundation knowledge and skills in the field of Archaeolog

  


DEPARTMENTAL QUIZ:

Date - 14/09/2023

On 14th of September 2023, History department has organized one Quiz programme with the students of History department on the topic of European History. Where Ms Krishna Das (cleared APSC in 2024) conducted the programme. Eighteen students have participated in nine Groups. Students are from 1st, 3rd, 5th semester. Student are very much benefitted out of this programme.


STUDENTS´ SEMINAR:

On 28th and 29th of September 2023 History department has organized another seminar with 6th semester students. Sixty students Participated. They got the opportunity to discuss the socio-political issues of Modern India, which help them to understand the Political condition of British period.


Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

MoU between Handique Girls´ College and Arya Vidyapeeth College (23/05/2023)

The MoU was signed between the departments of History of Handique Girls´ College and Arya Vidyapeeth College for various academic prospects. As a part of teachers exchange programme under MoU the teachers of both the college visited the respective institutions. On 29/03/2023 Dr. Detee Moni Baruah of Arya Vidyapeeth College delivered a lecture on Oral Culture and Oral History at Handique Girls´ College. Dr. Sangeeta Kakoti delivered a lecture on 28.08.2024 on the topic entitled Restoration and Revolution in Europe. On 10.09.2024 Dr. Dimpy Das of Handique Girls´ College delivered an insightful lecture on the topic entitled Revolt of 1857 at Arya Vidyapeeth College.


TEACHER’S DAY Celebration:

The main Objectives of celebrating the teacher’s day to honour educators for their invaluable contribution to shaping minds, imparting knowledge and building responsible citizen.
