The Department of Education is proud to have produced a distinct number of graduates excelling in the subject, having obtained top positions in the university since the time of its inception as a separate department in 1942.
Mrs Bedika Barua, is the founder head of the department along with Dr Biren Talukdar as a faculty member. At both the degree and undergraduate level, this department has been continuously producing a large number of meritorious and successful women graduates every year, achieving distinction in the subject, and chalking out a distinct position for themselves in the society. The education department of Handique Girls" College has a current enrolment of a total 152 honours /major students, with 70 major students in the FYUGP First semester, 38 honours student in the CBCS Third semester, and 44 honours Students in the CBCS Fifth semester. The department has a total number of 211 students in the FYUGP First semester minor course, about 200 students in the CBCS Third semester Generic course.
Besides producing the Annual wall magazine PANORAMA, the department has its credit of presenting its first hand-written magazine GYANAM to celebrate World Literacy Day on 8th September, 2023. The second volume of the magazine was launched in 2024.
The department presently has five full time permanent faculty members. The student fretarnity of the department comprise of students coming from different parts of India, especially the north-eastern states.
Department has its own departmental library with over 600 subject related books and a few journals to cater the need of the students.
The Department possesses a separate laboratory required for conducting the psychological practicals. For Psychological Practicals, the following equipments are available in the department
Cash Award of Rs. 10,000/ for the student obtaining highest mark in the B.A.in Education Course instituted by Former Head of the Department Renu Goswami.
Each student is assigned a teacher as her mentor throughout the academic sessions in order to provide all kinds of support, guidance and assistance for academic and personal development of the student. The student will be in constant touch of her mentor and approach for any kind of issue.
The students of the department prepare the Departmental Wall-Magazine focusing on different themes each year.
Students also prepare a special issue of the Departmental Wall-Magazine participating in the Inter-departmental Wall Magazine Competition during Annual College Week.
From 2026 onwards, the wall-magazine is prepared with QR codes.
The students of the department prepare the Departmental Hand-written Magazine titled Gyanam focusing on different themes each year.
