PROFILE

The Department of Education is proud to have produced a distinct number of graduates excelling in the subject, having obtained top positions in the university since the time of its inception as a separate department in 1942.

 

Mrs Bedika Barua, is the founder head of the department along with Dr Biren Talukdar as a faculty member. At both the degree and undergraduate level, this department has been continuously producing a large number of meritorious and successful women graduates every year, achieving distinction in the subject, and chalking out a distinct position for themselves in the society. The education department of Handique Girls" College has a current enrolment of a total 152 honours /major students, with 70 major students in the FYUGP First semester, 38 honours student in the CBCS Third semester, and 44 honours Students in the CBCS Fifth semester. The department has a total number of 211 students in the FYUGP First semester minor course, about 200 students in the CBCS Third semester Generic course.

 

Besides producing the Annual wall magazine PANORAMA, the department has  its credit of presenting its first hand-written magazine GYANAM to celebrate World Literacy Day on 8th September, 2023. The second volume of the magazine was launched in 2024. 

 

The department presently has five full time permanent faculty members. The student fretarnity of the department comprise of students coming from different parts of India, especially the north-eastern states.

LIBRARY

Department has its own departmental library with over 600 subject related books and a few journals to cater the need of the students.

 

LABORATORY AND EQUIPMENT

The Department possesses a separate laboratory required for conducting the psychological practicals. For Psychological Practicals, the following equipments are available in the department

  • Psychological Well Being Scale

 

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT:

  • Award

Cash Award of Rs. 10,000/ for the student obtaining highest mark in the B.A.in Education Course instituted by Former Head of the Department Renu Goswami.

  • Mentoring Facility

Each student is assigned a teacher as her mentor throughout the academic sessions in order to provide all kinds of support, guidance and assistance for academic and personal development of the student. The student will be in constant touch of her mentor and approach for any kind of issue.

  • Departmental Wall-Magazine

The students of the department prepare the Departmental Wall-Magazine focusing on different themes each year.

Students also prepare a special issue of the Departmental Wall-Magazine participating in the Inter-departmental Wall Magazine Competition during Annual College Week.

From 2026 onwards, the wall-magazine is prepared with QR codes.

  •  Hand-written Magazine

The students of the department prepare the Departmental Hand-written Magazine titled Gyanam focusing on different themes each year.

MoUs & IMPLEMENTATION:

MoU has been signed between the department and Kidveda to run the Montessori Teacher Training Course in 2023.

Implementation:

  • As per the MoU, the 6 Months Montessori Teacher Training Certificate Course has been launched in January 2024. The first batch of the course was started with 16 students from February 2024.

 

MoU has been signed between the department and Department of Education, Cotton University for academic exchange.

Implementation:

  • As per the MoU, the CBCS 6th Semester students were toured to the Department of Education, Cotton University on 27th Feb 2024 where they had attended a lecture on Research Methodology delivered by Porishmita Saikia, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Education, Cotton University.
  • As per the MoU, Jintu Thakuria, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, HGC delivered a lecture on Historical Research and Ex Post Facto Research to the students of M.A. 2nd semester, Dept. of Education, Cotton University.

 

 

CAREER COUNSELING ACTIVITIES

  • A Talk on ‘Preparation for Competitive Exam" was delivered by Ms. Panchami Choudhury, Deputy, Secretary, Govt. of Assam to the students of the department on 28th April 2023.
  • A Talk on ‘Environmental Humanism" was organized for the students of the department. The talk was delivered by Dhrijyoti Kalita, Doctoral Fellow, University of Minnesota, USA in August 29, 2023. The students were enlightened about ‘Environmental Humanism" as a new discipline along. Dhrijyoti Kalita also shared his experiences as doctoral fellow and gave insights to the students on how excel career in research in foreign universities.
  • A Talk on Public Speaking was delivered by Pranjit Das on 17th August 2023. The students were given insight on how to develop skills of public speaking and orating.
  • The students are mentored through the Mentor-Mentee program on regular basis.

 

JOURNAL/ MAGAZINES BY STUDENTS

  • The students of the department prepared the Wall Magazine of the department in August 2022 on the theme Flood in Assam.
  • The HS 2nd Year students of the department prepared the Poster Magazine of the department in November 2022 on the theme Schools of Assam.
  • The CBCS 3rd Semester students of the department prepared the Wall Magazine of the department in February 2023 on the theme Women Empowerment.
  • The CBCS 3rd Semester students of the department prepared a Handwritten Magazine titled ‘Gyanam" in September 2023 on the occasion of World Literacy Day.
  • The CBCS 3rd Semester students of the department prepared the Wall Magazine of the department in February 2023 on the theme Women Empowerment.
  • The CBCS 3rd Semester students of the department prepared a Handwritten Magazine titled ‘Gyanam" in September 2023 on the occasion of World Literacy Day.
  • The students of the department prepared the Wall Magazine of the department in February 2024 which got 2nd Prize in Departmental Wall Magazine Competition under Literary Section in the Annual College Week 2024.

 

  • The FYUGP 2nd & 4th Semester students of the department prepared the Wall Magazine of the department in February 2026 on the theme Paradox of Social Media

ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENTS

  • Madhusmita Bhattacharya, UG 3rd Sem won the Preety Memorial Award 2022-23.
  • Karabi Nath and Supriya Sarmah, UG 3RD Sem got selected for International Conference on Sustainable Development and presented their paper in the same on 18th January 2024.
  • Karabi Nath, Supriya Sarmah and Nabanita Roy won the First Prize in the Handwritten Magazine Competition of Annual College Week 2024for their handwritten Magazine.
  • The students of the department prepared the departmental wall magazine which got second prize in the departmental wall magazine competition of Annual College Week 2024.
